Minimalism made simple is the aim of this post. We all want a simpler and happier life, right?
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the clutter in your home, your schedule, or even your mind?
I have. It wasn’t until I started exploring minimalism that I realised how much freedom could come from simplifying my life.
If you’re curious about how to live with less but aren’t sure where to start, let me share what’s worked for me.
Spoiler alert: It’s not about getting rid of everything you own.
It’s about creating space for what truly matters.
Here are some simple ways I’ve embraced minimalism, and how you can too.

Start with One Small Space
When you first think about decluttering, you get overwhelmed just imagining the process. Am I right?
So what I do is instead of tackling my whole house, I start with one small space. This could be your junk drawer, a cupboard or your wardrobe.
Here’s what I did:
-
Took everything out and laid it out so I could see it all.
-
Kept only the items I actually used (goodbye, random rubber bands!).
-
Organised what was left in a way that made sense.
It was such a small change, but it felt amazing.
Once I saw how good it felt to have one tidy, intentional space, I was hooked.
Ask Yourself: Does This Add Value?
This question is my guide for everything, not just the things I own, but also how I spend my time.
When deciding whether to keep something, I ask myself:
-
Do I use this regularly?
-
Does this make me happy or serve a purpose?
-
Would I miss this if it were gone?
If the answer is no, I let it go.
And it’s not just about stuff, I’ve also said no to people and activities that don’t work with my goals and values.
It’s so freeing to focus on what truly matters.
Embrace the "One In, One Out" Rule
If you are a regular reader, which of course you are.
You will have heard this one before.
This simple rule has helped me keep clutter from sneaking back in.
When I bring something new into my life, I let go of something I no longer need.
Maybe you bought a new pair of shoes? Donate the pair you never wear.
Got a new book? Pass an old one to a friend or donate it to your local library.
It keeps things balanced and will make you think twice before buying something you don’t really need.
Simplify Your Schedule
Minimalism isn’t just about physical clutter. It’s also about simplifying your time.
I used to say yes to everything, but now I’ve learned that every yes is a no to something else.
Here’s how I simplified my schedule:
-
Prioritised activities that bring me joy or work with my goals.
-
Scheduled “no plans” days to rest and recharge.
-
Let go of obligations that felt draining or unnecessary.
Now, my calendar feels more like a reflection of what I value, not a list of things I have to do.
Focus on Quality Over Quantity
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that less really is more.
Instead of having a wardrobe full of clothes I don’t love, I only have pieces I actually enjoy wearing.
I don’t know about you but I went through a stage in my life where I wore what everyone else wore to fit in. Even though I was uncomfortable.
Eventually, I realised I wanted to be me and wear what I wanted. This is when I solved my wardrobe issues.
Instead of filling my home with cheap decor, I’ve chosen a few meaningful items that make me smile.
This shift has made me appreciate what I have so much more. It’s not about having nothing, it’s about having enough.
Remember Your Why
Minimalism is personal, and it looks different for everyone.
For me, it’s about creating space for what matters. My family.
Spending time with my family, and hobbies and enjoying a peaceful home.
What’s your why?
Maybe it’s reducing stress, saving money, or having more time for what you care about.
Whatever it is, keep it in mind as you simplify your life.

Bee's Final Thoughts
Living with less doesn’t mean you have to give up everything.
It means making intentional choices about what you let into your life and what you let go of.
It’s not just about the physical items but people too. Sometimes we need to let people in our lives go to be truly happy.
For me, it’s been a journey of discovering that less really is more. More peace, more joy, and more time for what matters most.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, start small.
You don’t have to do it all at once.
Remember, it’s not about perfection, it’s about progress.
