Pregnancy tips you need.
Hey there, future mums!
Whether you’re rocking that baby bump or just starting your pregnancy journey.
You’ve probably heard all the usual advice: eat healthy, rest plenty, and avoid lifting heavy things.
But guess what? There’s a whole world of quirky, surprising, and downright helpful tips that many mums don’t know about!
Let’s dive in, shall we?
Check out Bounty for loads of advice and FREE packs.

1. Ice Cream Can Help With Heartburn (Kind of!)
Pregnancy heartburn is no joke.
I am currently preggers with my third.
Heartburn feels like a mini dragon is camping in your chest!
While many people suggest milk or antacids, did you know a scoop of vanilla ice cream can work wonders?
Not only does it cool your throat, but it’s also way more fun than chewing on chalky tablets.
2. You Can Smell EVERYTHING—So Use It to Your Advantage!
Gosh, those early days are horrific. Why do we need such a strong sense of smell? Wouldn’t better hearing or sight be more practical?
Pregnancy gives you an unwanted superpower: a turbocharged sense of smell.
While this might make stinky socks unbearable. It’s great for picking out subtle scents, like the perfect candle for your baby’s room.
Fun tip: Sniff fresh citrus (lemon is popular) if certain smells are making you queasy—it helps reset your nose.
Although this may not work for everyone.
3. Belly Bands Are Your New Best Friend
As your bump grows, your favourite jeans might feel…less friendly.
Enter belly bands.
These stretchy lifesavers let you rock your regular clothes for longer. They help with lower back pain.
Bonus? They’re super comfy and double as an extra layer of support.
They can be pricey so be sure to check out second-hand ones first. Facebook marketplace and Vinted are my go-to’s.
4. Your Baby Can Hear You WAY Earlier Than You Think
By 18 weeks, your little one can start hearing sounds!
That’s the perfect excuse to blast your favourite tunes or read them a fun book (even if it’s just your shopping list).
Spoiler alert: They might even recognise your voice when they’re born!
Cue the awwww’s.
5. Snack Hacks: Always Have Something in Your Bag
If you already have children you will know that this is mum 101.
But don’t forget about you too.
Morning sickness isn’t just for mornings. During this pregnancy, it was all day every day.
To keep nausea at bay, carry small, easy snacks like crackers or granola bars.
Weird but true: Salty crackers and hard-boiled eggs can also help settle your tummy. Who knew snacks could be your secret weapon?
6. Sleeping on Your Left Side Is a Game-Changer
As your belly grows, sleeping becomes trickier.
Experts recommend sleeping on your left side—it helps with blood flow to your baby and your kidneys.
Can’t get comfy? Invest in a giant pregnancy pillow. It’s like hugging a cloud!
Again save some pennies and get second-hand. They have only been used for a few weeks so practically brand new.
7. Weird Cravings Are Totally Normal
Pickles and ice cream?
Cereal at midnight? My favourite.
Pregnancy cravings are wild.
But here’s the cool part:
They often mean your body is asking for specific nutrients.
For example, craving salty snacks might mean you need more sodium. I loved Monster Munch at the beginning of this pregnancy.
So listen to your body (but maybe skip the anchovy smoothies).
8. Skin Changes Are a Thing
Ever heard of the “pregnancy glow”?
It’s real, thanks to extra blood flow.
But heads up—some women also get dry patches, acne, or a dark line down their belly (called the linea nigra).
Don’t stress; it’s all normal!
Just keep your skin moisturised and slather on sunscreen in the summer.
9. You Don’t Have to “Eat for Two”
Okay, so this one’s a myth. Sadly.
While you’re growing a tiny human, you only need an extra 200 calories in your third trimester. Not the whole pregnancy.
Instead of doubling portions, focus on eating nutrient-rich foods. (But hey, treat yourself to that cupcake now and then!)
10. Laughing (and Crying) Are Totally Normal
One minute you’re laughing at guinea pig videos, and the next, you’re crying because your toast is “too perfect.”
Nope? Just me?
Pregnancy hormones are a rollercoaster, and it’s okay!
Surround yourself with people who get it and don’t be afraid to laugh at the craziness.
Just enjoy the ride.
A Little Bonus Tip: Trust Yourself!
I’m getting serious now.
When I had my first child, she was so unwell, always vomiting.
I took her to the doctor 4 times and I always got told. “You are a new mum, babies are sick”.
It turned out she had a milk allergy.
Only got caught when a health visitor came round after a feed and saw her rashes, blown up like a balloon and vomiting everywhere.
I could go on with tons of stories but you don’t have all day. Or maybe you do.
No one knows your body (or your baby) like you do.
So while tips and advice are helpful, always trust your instincts. You’ve got this, mama!
Pregnancy is a wild, wonderful adventure full of surprises.
Whether you’re sneaking a scoop of ice cream for heartburn or rocking out to your baby’s favourite tunes.
Remember to enjoy the journey.
Oh, and don’t forget to take lots of bump pics—they’ll make great stories later!
