1. Set a Budget and Stick to It
Every year we set a Christmas budget.
It works and we don’t overspend on useless stuff people don’t want anyway.
Before shopping, decide how much you want to spend on gifts, decorations, and food.
You can go one step further and find a budget per person too.
Write down your budget and make a list.
This way, you won’t be tempted to spend more than you planned.

2. Use DIY Decorations
Decorations can be expensive, but you can make your own!
Try using paper snowflakes, dried oranges, or even popcorn garlands.
Get creative with items you already have at home!
3. Shop Sales and Use Coupons
Watch for sales and use coupons when buying gifts and groceries.
Many stores offer great discounts around Christmas time, so keep an eye out!
You can find coupons online or through your door.
Check out the Coupon Queen for brilliant ideas on saving more money and not just at Christmas.
4. Secret Santa Gift Exchange
Instead of buying gifts for everyone, suggest a Secret Santa.
This way, each person only buys one gift, making it less expensive.
This is especially great for students or young families who don’t have much to spend at Christmas.
Plus, it’s always fun to guess who your Secret Santa is!
5. Plan a Potluck Christmas Dinner
Hosting a big dinner can get pricey, so ask friends or family to bring a dish.
When everyone pitches in, you’ll have a delicious feast without breaking the bank.
6. Enjoy Free Holiday Activities
There are many free holiday activities you can enjoy.
Like watching Christmas movies, having a cosy family game night or my favourite… Driving around to see everyone’s Christmas decorations and lights.
7. Don't Buy Advent Calendars
I love chocolate but advent calendars are so pricey, especially the free-from ones.
Instead, why not buy a celebration chocolate box? (or any of your favourites)
You can create your own advent calendar or simply have a choc a day.
You get more chocolate and it saves you money.
Great value for money.
8. Decorate With Nature
I love this one and it’s great for the whole family.
Go for a nature walk and collect pinecones, branches, and leaves to use as natural decor.
Arrange them on tables, mantlepieces, or around candles for a rustic touch.
9. Make Homemade Gifts
Instead of buying gifts, try making something special.
I do this with my kids and they love being creative and sharing their pride of joy gifts with friends and family.
You could bake cookies, make homemade candles, or create a photo album.
Handmade gifts can be very meaningful and are usually cheaper than store-bought ones.

10. Wrap Gifts with Recycled Materials
We have done this since my oldest was little.
It’s great for them to get involved in creating an art piece that makes the gift extra special.
Use newspaper, brown paper bags, or even old maps to wrap your presents.
Add a ribbon or a bit of greenery to finish it off.
11. Customised New Year Calendars
Print out a simple calendar template and add photos, quotes, or artwork for each month.
You can find templates online or even print or draw one yourself.
12. Handmade Blankets Or Scarves
No need to knit!
This is a joy to your ears if you are like me.
Use fleece to make a simple no-sew blanket or scarf by cutting and tying fringe on the edges.
These are cosy, personal, and perfect for winter.
13. Christmas countdown jar
Another twist on chocolate calendars is a countdown jar.
Write down 24 simple activities (like “sing a carol,” “make a holiday treat,” or “call a loved one”) and put them in a jar.
Pick one each day leading up to Christmas as a fun countdown.
14. Christmas Scavenger hunt
Create a Christmas-themed scavenger hunt.
We do this at easter and I thought, why not for Christmas too?
This can be for kids (or adults) around the house or garden.
Use clues and small treats as prizes.
It’s a fun and memorable activity that requires little prep or cost. Perfect.
15. Gratitude Tree
This is beautiful and I saved it for last because it really does remind us what Christmas is all about.
Instead of a traditional Christmas tree.
Make a “gratitude tree.”
Write what you’re grateful for on paper leaves or ornaments and hang them on branches.
It’s a beautiful, heartfelt decoration that will get you all in the Christmas spirit.
Bee's Final Thoughts
By trying even a few of these tips, you’ll find it’s possible to save money this Christmas.
Even while keeping up the festive cheer.
From handmade gifts to creative decorations. These simple changes can make a big difference in your budget.
Remember, the true joy of Christmas is in the moments you share, not in the money you spend.
Wishing you a merry, meaningful, and budget-friendly Christmas!
