1. Heart-Shaped Bird Feeders

Let’s show some love to our feathered friends this February!

These heart-shaped bird feeders are simple to make and a fun way to teach kids about caring for nature.

You can also add food colouring to some before you start for a pop of colour in your garden.

What You Need:

  • Pipe cleaners (or sturdy string)

  • Cheerios or other cereal with a hole in the middle

  • Food colouring (Optional)

How-To:

  1. Shape your pipe cleaners into hearts (or let the kids come up with wild, fun shapes!).

  2. String the Cheerios onto the pipe cleaner.

  3. Twist the ends together to secure the shape and hang them on tree branches.

This is perfect for a chilly morning activity if you can keep your kiddies from eating all the Cheerios.

Bonus: You can count the Cheerios as you thread them for a sneaky math lesson!

If you have read my post on Valentine’s Day with kids then you will know to forget store-bought cards.

Handmade Valentines are where it’s at! Not only will this save you money (awesome). You will also have cute designs and wonderful memories that you cannot get with shop-bought cards.

Kids will love adding their personal touch to these sweet greetings.

What You Need:

  • Coloured or white Paper/Card

  • Stickers, pens, glitter… basically, anything fun!

How-To:

  1. Fold your paper/card in half to make a card.

  2. Decorate with stickers and heartfelt messages.

  3. Add a personal touch, like a handprint or fingerprint heart design.

Pro Tip: Set up a Valentine’s card “assembly line” so kids can make cards for their friends and family.

What You Need:

  • Smooth rocks

  • Acrylic paint or paint pens

  • Paint sealer (optional, but it makes them weatherproof)

How-To:

  1. Wash and dry your rocks.

  2. Paint fun winter designs. Think snowflakes or silly snowmen.
