How often do you have family fun nights?
In today’s fast-paced, tech-driven world, it’s easy for families to get caught up in the habit of spending evenings glued to screens.
Whether it’s watching TV, playing video games, or scrolling through social media, screen time can take away from valuable face-to-face time.
That’s why I suggest planning dedicated screen-free family fun nights.
These can be a game changer for reconnecting and strengthening bonds with our partners and children.
Here are 10 screen-free activities that will bring joy, laughter, and memorable moments to your family time.
Enjoy and don’t forget to comment at the end, I love hearing from you and subscribe to get access to FREE printables, newsletters, the latest posts and more.
1. Game Night
I love board games so, dust off those classic board games.
If you don’t have many, you can always buy second-hand ones from Vinted or Marketplace.
Our favourites are games like Uno or Pictionary.
These are perfect for bringing out competitive and cooperative sides in both kids and adults.
2. DIY Talent Show
Let each family member show off a unique skill or hidden talent.
Whether it’s singing, dancing, magic tricks, or storytelling.
A homemade talent show can fill the house with laughter and applause.
Add costumes and props for extra fun!
3. Cook-Off Challenge
Split into teams and have a friendly cook-off with simple recipes.
Choose a theme like “pizza night” or “dessert showdown,” and let everyone’s creativity shine.
Younger children can participate as junior chefs with simple tasks.
My girls love baking so this is a great family fun night activity.
4. Scavenger Hunt
Set up a scavenger hunt around your home or garden with clues and small prizes.
You can customise the theme based on your family’s interests—like pirates searching for treasure or detectives solving a mystery.
5. Storytelling Circle
Gather around in a cosy spot and take turns telling stories.
Kids have the best imaginations and adults can learn a lot from our children.
You never know you have the next bestseller.
For a twist, try a collaborative storytelling game where each person adds a sentence or two to build an unexpected tale together.
6. Craft Night
Bring out the arts and crafts supplies for a night of creativity.
If you are like me then you will have tons of arts and crafts supplies. Make use of them as a family.
Make seasonal decorations, and homemade cards, or even try fun DIY projects like tie-dye shirts or painted rocks.
Let everyone’s imagination run wild!
7. Indoor Camping
We love this one.
Transform your living room into a camping site with sleeping bags, blankets, and fairy lights.
Share campfire stories, make s’mores in the oven, and play nature sounds for an authentic outdoor experience.
8. Puzzle Party
Set up a large puzzle on the dining table and work on it together as a team.
This activity promotes patience, teamwork, and problem-solving while giving everyone a shared goal to accomplish.
10. Charades Night
A timeless classic.
Charades is perfect for all ages and never fails to deliver laughs.
Use movie titles, book names, or everyday activities as prompts.
For younger kids, use picture-based cards for easy guessing.
