Ever think “I wish I could be more positive” or “How come Sue next door is always so positive, how does she do it?”
Life can be a bit of a rollercoaster, can’t it?
Some days, everything feels amazing. On other days, it’s like the universe is testing your patience.
But here’s the thing: staying positive can make a HUGE difference, no matter what life throws your way.
In just seven days, you can build habits that’ll help you focus on the good stuff. Stay motivated, and feel happier overall.
Let’s dive in!

Why Being Positive is Worth It
First off, why should you bother?
Well, positivity doesn’t just make you feel good, it’s actually really good for you.
Studies show that people with a positive mindset:
-
Feel healthier: Positivity can lower stress. Boost your immune system, and even improve your heart health.
-
Build stronger relationships: When you’re positive, people enjoy being around you. It’s contagious in the best way!
-
Handle problems better: A positive outlook makes it easier to find solutions. Instead of dwelling on the negatives.
-
Enjoy life more: You’ll start to notice the little joys around you. Sunshine, laughter, a good meal and feel grateful for them.

Day 1: Start a Gratitude Journal
Grab a notebook, If you don’t have one, you can purchase one in my shop.
Write down three things you’re thankful for every day.
They don’t have to be big, just anything that makes you smile.
Did you have a nice chat with a friend?
Did your coffee taste perfect this morning?
Write it down!
Gratitude shifts your focus to what’s going right in your life.
You will be amazed at how this small step changes your outlook on life.
Day 2: Surround Yourself with Positivity
Your environment matters.
Spend time with people who uplift you, not those who constantly complain.
Clean up your space, yes, a tidy room can clear your mind! Need help with cleaning and decluttering? No worries, I have you covered with that too.

Add a few things that make you happy, like a plant, fairy lights, or pictures of people you love.
Day 3: Practice Positive Self-Talk
Let’s be honest, we can be our own worst critics. I know I can be.
Change that!
Every time you catch yourself thinking, “I’m so bad at this.”
Replace it with something kinder, like “I’m still learning, and that’s okay”.
It feels weird at first, but trust me, it works.
I used to leave myself post-it notes around my room as a reminder to have self-compassion.

Day 4: Focus on Small Wins
Big goals are great, but they can feel overwhelming. And quite often big goals are the ones we don’t stick to.
Instead, celebrate the little things you achieve each day.
Finished a task?
Did some exercise?
Did you make it through a tough day?
Try not to minimise your small wins. For example by saying “Oh it’s not a big deal” or “I should have done more.”
Give yourself credit! Small wins add up to big progress.
Day 5: Practice Mindfulness
Take a few minutes each day to just breathe and be present.
Sit quietly, close your eyes, and focus on your breathing.
If your mind wanders, gently bring it back.
Mindfulness helps you stay calm, notice the good stuff, and let go of stress.
I have popular posts on how to achieve this if you are unsure how to get started.
Read: Making mindfulness and self-care a priority in your life.
Day 6: Be Kind to Others
One of the easiest ways to feel positive is to make someone else smile.
Compliment a stranger, help a friend, or send a kind text to someone you care about.
My favourite is to let people go when I’m driving. Might sound odd or small but to me, I feel good and I know I have helped someone by being kind.
No one knows what’s really going on in someone else’s life, so be kind.
Acts of kindness boost your mood and theirs, it’s a win-win!
Day 7: Reflect and Set Intentions
Take some time to look back on the week. Use my goal setting sheet here which is FREE to download.
What worked well?
What made you feel good?
Write down what you want to keep doing moving forward.
Having clear intentions keeps you focused and motivated.
Signs You’re Not Being Positive (And How to Fix It)
Sometimes, it’s hard to tell when negativity sneaks in. Especially when you are just getting started.
Here’s what to watch for:
-
You’re constantly complaining: Try moving to solutions instead of focusing on the problem.
-
You’re comparing yourself to others: Remind yourself that everyone’s journey is different. Focus on your progress.
-
You feel stuck: Break things down into small steps and focus on what you can control. One baby step at a time.
If you notice these things, don’t beat yourself up, just reset and try again.
Positivity is a skill, and it takes practice.
