Dealing with pain is tough, isn’t it?

Whether it’s physical pain, emotional heartbreak, or just the weight of the world sitting on your shoulders.

We all go through it. The good news?

You don’t have to go through it alone.

I am a chronic pain sufferer so I know what I am talking about. I want to share some simple but effective steps to help you deal with pain and start feeling better….well you know what I mean.

Let’s walk through this together. And if anything here speaks to you, drop a comment—I’d love to hear from you!

Enjoy and don’t forget to comment at the end, I love hearing from you and subscribe to get access to FREE printables, newsletters, the latest posts and more.

How do you deal with pain?

Do you struggle with daily pain?

Are you fed up with not knowing what to do?

Are relationships and mental health suffering too?

You are not alone!

Hi. I’m Berenice and I suffer from chronic pain.

Chronic pain has been in my life since the age of 10 and every day can be a battle.

Everybody’s pain is different and I have learned so much over the years with my experiences, research and pain management courses.

I am CPD certified in physiology and pain management.

Read Being a mum with chronic pain.

Acknowledge Your Pain

Ignoring pain doesn’t make it go away.

I spent many years doing so and it really didn’t do me any good, emotionally or physically.

It’s okay to say, “This hurts like hell” and give yourself a moment to feel it.

Whether it’s an emotional pain like a rough breakup. Or chronic pain. Sometimes it’s just a bad day but admitting that something is wrong is the first step to healing.

meditation, deal with pain

Breathe & Ground Yourself

When pain strikes, our body tenses up.

Try this: Take a deep breath in for four seconds, hold it for four, and let it out slowly for four.

When we have chronic pain, our breath is our best way of dealing with the pain. Especially if like me the condition you have isn’t curable.

Do this a few times.

It helps calm your nervous system and brings you back to the present moment.

Move Your Body

You don’t have to hit the gym, but even a short walk, stretching, or gentle yoga can help.

I try to do some sort of exercise every day. Naturally, you need to work within your levels and it shouldn’t cause more pain.

I am also a home-educating mum to three young children. So I know the daily challenges that getting out of bed can be let alone exercise.

However, moving releases endorphins, your body’s natural painkillers.

Plus, it shifts your focus from pain to action.

Check out my post on exercise for pain sufferers.

Find Your Outlet

Pain needs an escape route.

Write in a journal, talk to a friend, draw, sing, whatever helps you express yourself.

Keeping things bottled up only makes them worse.

I love to write posts like this to help others. I also love to play board games with my children or watch a movie (even if I can’t sit still)

Drop your favourite outlet in the comments below. I am always looking for ways to ease my own pain too.

Flare-Up Kit

When pain takes over, try to shift your thoughts.

Do you have a flare-up kit? If not then read my post on why a flare-up kit is important and how to put one together.

Read a book, listen to uplifting music, watch a funny video, or dive into a hobby.

It won’t erase the pain, but it gives your mind something positive to hold onto.

Seek Support

You don’t have to do this alone. You have me but If I am not enough then talk to someone you trust.

If you need more help, therapy or counselling is always an option.

You have pain management consultants like me, if not try and pursue more support.

There’s no shame in asking for help.

Practice Self-Compassion

You wouldn’t judge a friend for being in pain, so why be hard on yourself?

Treat yourself with kindness. This is very hard to do and I know I am guilty of this too. We are human but we have to be there for ourselves.

Take a warm bath, get enough sleep and eat nourishing food.

Do small things that remind you that you deserve care too.

What you are going through is bloody tough and a lot of other people don’t understand. Especially if it’s an invisible illness like mine. But you still matter!

Look Forward

Pain doesn’t last forever. I know it feels like it.

Perhaps you have a condition like mine where you have been told many times there isn’t anything more they can do.

It’s all about managing the pain. And that’s what we are doing here today.

Even on bad days, remind yourself that better days are coming.

Focus on small wins, celebrate tiny progress, and keep moving forward.

self-doubt, positive, deal with pain

Let’s Talk!

Have you ever dealt with pain that felt impossible to get through?

I know I have many times and I’m still here, fighting.

What helped you?

Share your thoughts in the comments, I’d love to hear your story and support each other.

New pain journal

I created a pain journal, which is a mood and symptoms tracker.

It is available now to buy. I will receive a small commission from each sale at no extra cost to you.

Suffering from chronic pain for 25 years has its daily struggles, as you know.

I have used so many trackers in that time and they were always missing something. So I created this with that in mind.

You will love this as much as I do and It will help you track your pain patterns, help you set goals and more.

Thanks
