Save money, time and energy by food shopping by aisle.

This is a simple, cost-effective way to save you money today!

We have been food shopping by aisle for years and It is always a competition between myself and my husband on who can get what we need, but save us the most money each week.

We are a family of 4 with a dairy allergy, wheat intolerance and Vegetarian included. As you know, shopping for these free from items raises the cost but it doesn’t mean you can’t save money.

A little bit of fun and a bit of healthy competition never hurt anyone right?

I have some affiliate links to items I use below. I will receive a small commission with each purchase at no extra cost to you. Thank you for helping me run my business.

Go on give it a go, I bet I can save you money on your next shop by following these rules.

Use a whiteboard

We use a whiteboard on the fridge to note what items we have run out of and what we need for the following week’s meals.

This is helpful because even the children can add to the list. (Click the buy now button now to get yours)

What I also do and this has changed the way I shop drastically, is mark out ‘aisle 1’’aisle 2’ etc.

Food shopping by aisle this way saves us as a family money, time and waste.

Don’t just shop in one place because it is convenient, but also don’t drive miles away (spending more on fuel) just to save in the shops.

I have an Asda within 4 minutes walk away but I wouldn’t save as much in there even with driving to the stores I use.

Experiment, see where you save the most.

We shop at Aldi and then Tesco. It takes us 10 minutes to drive to Aldi and then 3 more minutes to Tesco.

Plan

Set aside some time (I do this on a Sunday) to write down your meals for the week.

I ask everyone in our hive to choose a meal and I slot it into the week where I think it will work best.

Just because I have put Brocolli soup on for Wednesday doesn’t mean I can’t switch the meals around for the week. Importantly only use the meals you have planned for that week.

Meal Ideas

I have written out a list of dinner ideas that sits on the fridge from which I can choose from, because again this saves time and energy.

This helps me choose meals quicker and besides, who wants to eat the same meals daily?

Use what you’ve got

Now you have your meals for the week, it’s time to go through each dinner meal and see what you need for it.

Ie for spaghetti bolognese I know I need onions.

I will then have a look and see if we have onions, no, so that goes on my shopping list.

You just carry on until you have gone through each dinner idea and only put on the shopping list the items you need for the week for each meal.

Don’t over shop

Once I have that done, I then go through each cupboard to see what we are low on (this should already be on the whiteboard)

Remember only get what you need!

Typically we need cereal, milk, bread that sort of thing.

Try only to put on the shopping list the items you need for meals (including, breakfast and lunch) This helps prevent you from over shopping on items that are not on the list.

Naturally, we are human and we miss things off, but try to avoid popping extras in your trolley when it is not needed.

Shop, Save, Enjoy

Lastly once everything is on my whiteboard I then transfer to my piece of paper to take out with me.

I know this may seem a strange thing to do but the one thing you should know about me is that I like things to be neat. Odd bod you might say. (shrug)

Of course, you may choose to put this on your phone or just take a picture. (probably easier)

And that’s it. It’s quite simple.

Do this each week and you will notice how much money you save. Not to mention time and energy and it helps create healthier, long-term goals and meals for you and your family.

Food shopping by aisle really works, try it and leave me a comment with how much you saved.
