1. Go on a Picnic

Nothing beats a simple picnic in the park or your garden!

I love picnics, don’t you?

Pack a basket with sandwiches, fresh fruit, and some homemade cake. Try my popular carrot cake recipe here.

Bring a blanket, a frisbee or a book and enjoy an afternoon soaking up the sun.

Want to make it extra special?

Try making a DIY picnic. Each family member brings their favourite homemade snack!

Comment and let me know what snacks you take on your picnics.

2. Take a Nature Walk

Find a local trail and take a relaxing nature walk.

This time of year is beautiful for a woodland walk with all the buds and flowers coming through.

Let the kids lead the way and see what interesting plants, insects, or animals they can spot.

Bring a magnifying glass for up-close exploring and turn it into a mini science adventure!

Want more mindfulness moments as a family? I have EVERYTHING you will need to complete that with my family activity guide to mindfulness.

3. Organise a Nature Scavenger Hunt

Make a checklist of things to find. A pinecone, a yellow flower, or a feather and turn your nature walk into a fun scavenger hunt.

Alternatively, print off one I have done for you. Let me know what you find.

This is a great way to keep kids engaged and excited about exploring the outdoors.

4. Start a Spring Garden

Spring is the perfect time to start a small vegetable or flower garden. Even If you have a small garden like we do, you can still make the most of spring and your space.

Let the kids pick what they want to grow, and teach them how to plant and care for their new little garden.

Watching their plants grow over the weeks will give them a great sense of accomplishment!

5. Fly a Kite

Find an open field on a breezy day and let your kite soar!

Flying a kite is a simple but magical way to enjoy the outdoors.

You can even make your own kite at home with sticks, string, and a plastic bag or colourful paper.

6. Visit a Farmer’s Market

Support local farmers while enjoying fresh produce and homemade treats.

Many markets also have live music, food trucks, and fun activities for kids.

Let your children pick out a fruit or veggie they’ve never tried before!

7. Try Birdwatching

Grab a pair of binoculars and see how many different birds you can spot in your neighbourhood or local park.

You can use a free birdwatching app to help identify them.

Keep a journal of all the birds you see and make it a family project!

8. Have an Outdoor Movie Night

Set up a projector or laptop in your back garden and have a cosy family movie night under the stars.

Bring out blankets, popcorn, and some string lights. This will create the perfect outdoor theatre experience.

9. Create Chalk Art

Grab a pack of colourful chalk and let your kids’ creativity shine! My kids love this and keeps them entertained for hours.

You will find it in craft stores and most places at this time of year at a reasonable price.

Draw fun designs to create a hopscotch game.

You can even write positive messages for neighbours to enjoy.

10. Camp in Your Back Garden

Pitch a tent and tell ghost stories. Roast marshmallows, and sleep under the stars.

All without leaving home!

This is a great way to introduce kids to camping before taking them on a real camping trip.
