In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, especially as a mum, wife, and chronic pain sufferer, it’s easy to forget about self-care and to put our own needs on the back burner.

However, self-care is not a luxury, it’s a must to maintaining our well-being and being our best self.

By making self-care important, we can improve our mental, physical, and emotional health, which will lead to a more balanced and happier life. Who doesn’t want that?

Here’s how you can add self-care to your daily routine.

1. Make Your Physical Health a priority

Taking care of your body is important, we all know this right?

This doesn’t mean you need to spend hours at the gym or follow a strict diet though, it’s about finding the small wins that nurture your physical health.

For example when I am in too much pain to actually do a workout or even walk then I have a protein shake instead of snacking on rubbish only to feel even worse about myself.

Top Tip: Add gentle exercises like walking, yoga, or pilates into your daily routine.

These exercises can help reduce pain, improve flexibility, and boost your mood.

Also, aim to eat a balanced diet that includes fruits, vegetables, proteins, and whole grains to fuel your body with all the goodness it needs.

2. Practice Mindfulness

If you are a regular reader then you will know I meditate and practice mindfulness daily and if you are interested in those you can read them here:

HERE IS WHY AND HOW TO LIVE A SLOW LIFE

Mindfulness is being present and fully aware of what’s going on in the moment.

It can help reduce stress, increase self-awareness, and improves our overall sense of well-being.

Top Tip: Start small, maybe just five minutes of mindfulness each day.

You can practice mindfulness through meditation, I love using Smiling Mind.

You can use deep breathing exercises like these.

Over time, gradually increase the duration as you become more comfortable with the practice.

3. Schedule Regular “Me Time"

Setting aside time for ourselves is important for recharging and maintaining balance.

It could be a few minutes a day or a dedicated hour each week, this time should be solely for activities that bring you joy and relaxation.

Top Tip: Create a self-care schedule and stick to it or get this FREE one I have created when you subscribe.

Treat this time as a non-negotiable appointment with yourself.

During this time you can read a book, take a bath, perhaps a favourite hobby, or simply sit in silence.

4. Emotional Self-Care

Emotional self-care involves knowing and expressing our feelings in healthy ways.

It’s about understanding our emotional needs and finding ways to meet them.

I practice this a lot with my children.

Top Tip: I love journals as you may know and by keeping a journal like this one, you can write down your thoughts and feelings.

This helps me process emotions and help clear my mind.

Don’t forget to seek support from friends, family, or a mental health professional when needed.

5. Supportive Relationships

Strong, supportive relationships are key to self-care.

Spending quality time with loved ones can boost your mood and provide a sense of belonging and security.

I love being with my husband and our children, out for a walk in the woods where our attention is on each other.

Top Tip: Make time for regular social get-togethers, whether it’s a family dinner, a coffee date with a friend, or a virtual chat with a loved one.

Building and keeping these relationships can massively improve your emotional well-being.

6. Create a peaceful Home

As you know I love the simplistic living style and when I am stressed I will tidy to relax.

Our homes can have a huge impact on our mood and stress levels.

Creating a peaceful and organised living space can help give you a more relaxed and focused mindset.

Top Tip: Declutter your home using the 4 simple steps here and create dedicated spaces for relaxation.

Add calming items like plants, soft lighting, and soothing colours.

Make sure your bedroom is a restful place that promotes good sleep hygiene.

7. Practice Gratitude

Gratitude is a powerful tool for improving happiness and gaining perspective.

We practice gratitude regularly as a family and reflect on the things we’re thankful for.

This can change our focus from what’s lacking to what’s right here in front of us.

Top Tip: Keep a gratitude journal and write down three things you’re grateful for each day.

This simple thing can help you see a more positive outlook and improve your overall sense of well-being.

Final Thoughts

Self-care is a continuous journey, not a one-and-done thing.

It’s about making intentional choices that improve your health and happiness.

By adding these self-care practices into your daily life, you can take care of your mind, body, and soul, which will lead to a more balanced and joyful life.

Remember, taking care of yourself is the first step towards being able to care for others.
