Stay Active Indoors and Out

When it’s cold outside, it’s tempting to stay under a blanket all day (trust me, I get it!). But staying active is one of the best ways to keep your body and mind in top shape during winter.

  • Bundle Up and Get Outside: Go for a walk, fly a kite or go ice skating. Fresh air and movement are fantastic mood boosters!

  • Indoor Fitness Fun: When it’s too cold to venture out. Try yoga, dance workouts, or even a family-friendly exercise video at home. Youtube is full of these so you will have plenty of choice. You can even make it a game with the kids, who can do the most jumping jacks or burpees.

  • Here are my winter inspired leggings to help with those winter blues.

Eat for Warmth and Wellness

What we eat during winter plays a huge role in keeping us healthy and energised.

Focus on healthy, warming meals that give your body the fuel it needs.

  • Immune-Boosting Foods: Add citrus fruits, leafy greens, and foods rich in vitamin C, like bell peppers, to your meals. Garlic and ginger are also winter superstars!

  • Hearty, Healthy Comfort Foods: Think soups, stews, and casseroles. You can load them with veggies and lean protein while still enjoying that cosy comfort.

Stay Hydrated (Yes, Even in Winter!)

When it’s cold, it’s easy to forget to drink water. But staying hydrated is just as important in winter as it is in summer.

  • Sip on Herbal Teas: I can understand if you are saying “Yuk” right now. I am too. However, They’re warm, comforting, and hydrating. Ingredients like chamomile or peppermint can help with relaxation and digestion.

  • Make Water Fun: I also don’t really like plain water but adding slices of citrus, cucumber, or a handful of frozen berries to your water can make it refreshing.

Keep Your Skin Happy

Winter air can be harsh on your skin, leaving it dry and irritated. Protect your family’s skin with these simple tips:

  • Moisturise Daily: Look for thick, fragrance-free lotions or creams that lock in moisture. Apply right after a shower for best results.

  • Pack Hand Cream and Lip Balms: As well as notebooks you know I would take a hand cream and lip balm to a desert island. Make sure to pack one of each in a bag for those moments when your skin needs it most. In and out of shops will dry our skin out.

Look After Your Mental Health

Winter isn’t just tough on our bodies, it can be hard on our minds too. Shorter days and less sunlight can leave us feeling down or unmotivated.

  • Let in Natural Light: Open the curtains during the day and let the sunlight in.

  • Practise Gratitude: Spend a few minutes each day writing down things you’re thankful for. It’s a simple way to shift your mindset and improve your mood. Check out these notebooks to keep you motivated and mindful.

  • Stay Connected: Make time for family and friends. Host cosy movie nights, game nights, or even virtual hangouts if you can’t meet in person.

Prioritise Sleep

The long nights of winter are perfect for catching up on rest. Good sleep helps boost your immune system, mood, and energy levels.

  • Stick to a Schedule: Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends.

  • Create a Relaxing Bedtime Routine: Read a book, sip some tea or hot chocolate. Or try a guided meditation to wind down.

Prepare a Winter Wellness Kit

Having a go-to kit can make staying healthy easier when life gets busy. Fill it with essentials like:

  • Vitamin C or multivitamins

  • Hand sanitisers

  • Lip balm and hand cream

  • Herbal teas or Hot Chocolate

  • Essential oils or Candles
