Are you travelling this Summer?

Summer holidays are a time for fun, adventure, and making great memories with family. But travelling can also throw off our healthy habits.

Long car rides, busy schedules, and tempting treats can make it hard to stick to routines.

The good news?

Staying healthy while traveling is totally possible!

Here are some simple tips to keep your family feeling great on your next holiday.

Pack Healthy Snacks

Fast food and service station snacks can be easy choices while on the road. But they’re not always the best for your body.

I’m not saying don’t do it, because even we have in the past.

But maybe you can bring along some healthy snacks like fruits, nuts, granola bars, or yogurt.

A little preparation can keep everyone energised. This avoids the sugar crash that comes from too many sweet treats. For adults and kids.

Stay Hydrated

It’s easy to forget to drink enough water when you’re busy having fun. Especially when you are travelling, because you don’t want to have to keep stopping for a pee break.

However, staying hydrated helps with energy levels and keeps everyone feeling their best.

Keep reusable water bottles for everyone in the family and refill them throughout the day.

Get Moving

Long flights or car rides can make you feel stiff and sluggish.

Plan for breaks to stretch, walk, or even do a few jumping jacks.

If we are travelling by car, we plan our route and make stops. Places like parks or woodland areas where the kids can burn off some energy.

When you reach your destination, choose activities that keep you moving. Like hiking, swimming, or exploring on foot.

Staying active helps balance out those extra holiday treats! Especially for us adults, who sadly don’t have the same metabolism as we did some years ago.

Stick to a Sleep Routine

It’s tempting to stay up late while travelling. But getting enough rest is important for staying healthy.

Obviously, the odd late night is expected.

However, try to keep bedtime and wake-up times close to your usual schedule.

The worst part is having lots of late family nights when travelling, but when you get everyone home, it really sneaks up on you.

You spend the next week trying to get everyone back into a sleep routine. This only brings down the holiday spirit a little.

A well-rested family is a happy family!

Future you will thank you.

Eat Balanced Meals

Enjoying local food is part of the adventure, and it’s okay to indulge a little.

Just try to balance meals with some fruits, vegetables, and proteins.

If eating out, look for options that include fresh ingredients. Avoid too many fried or sugary foods.

Don’t Forget Suncream

Summer trips often mean spending time in the sun, which is my favourite.

But we have to protect our skin! Do this by applying sunscreen regularly, wearing hats, and seeking shade when needed.

Sunburns can quickly ruin the fun, so prevention is key!

Keep Hands Clean

Travelling means touching lots of new surfaces, which can lead to germs spreading.

Carry hand sanitiser and remind everyone to wash their hands before meals.

This simple habit can help prevent sickness during your trip.
