Hey friends! I’m a mama of three busy tiny humans. And one thing I’ve picked up over the years is this: celebrating the seasons does not need to drain your bank account.
Honestly, my kids remember the fun and the feelings way more than how much we have spent.
So, here are some of my go-to (and some I have picked up along the way) low-cost seasonal ideas that add a bit of magic without the stress. Well…..less stress.
Think simple, sweet, and totally doable.
Enjoy and don’t forget to comment at the end, I love hearing from you and subscribe to get access to FREE printables, newsletters, the latest posts and more.
Spring: Fresh Starts
1. Garden Scavenger Hunt
Write a quick list of things to spot outside. Maybe it’s a flower bud, a feather or a wiggly worm. Let the kids go wild. Pop a couple of low-cost Poundland treats in as prizes if you fancy. Easy win.
2. DIY Flower Pots
Grab a few cheap terracotta pots and let the kids paint them however they like. Mine absolutely love this one, and it keeps them quiet for a surprisingly long time. Plant some herbs or wildflowers afterwards for a little “look what we grew!” moment.
3. Picnic in the Park
My favourite. Skip the café, it will save you tons of money. Throw sandwiches, fruit, and a few biscuits into a bag, and head to the nearest patch of grass. The kids get to run around, and you get to sit under a tree pretending you’re relaxed (even if you’re not).
Summer: Simple Joys & Sunshine Memories
1. Garden Movie Night
Hang up a white sheet, borrow a projector, make some popcorn, boom, instant magic. Watching a film under the stars never gets old.
2. Water Balloon Olympics
No pool needed. Just balloons and chaos. Make up silly challenges and let the kids get absolutely soaked. They’ll love it.
3. Family Campout (Indoors Totally Counts)
Tent in the garden? Lovely. Tent in the living room? Still lovely. Tell stories, make s’mores in the oven, switch off the screens for a bit, and just enjoy being together.
Autumn: Cosy Walks & Crunchy Leaves
1. DIY Pumpkin Decorating
Skip the fancy carving stuff. Paints and stickers are low-cost, safer, and way less messy. Plus, the pumpkins last longer. Win-win.
2. Baking Together
Autumn is peak baking season in our house. cakes, apple crumble, cookies. Whatever you fancy. If you can pick the apples yourselves, even better.
3. Gratitude Jar
Cut out little paper leaves or hearts and write things you’re grateful for. Pop them in a jar and leave them out as a sweet little reminder.
Winter: Warm Hearts, Cosy Homes
1. Family Pyjama Day
Cold outside? Perfect. Everyone stays in their fluffiest PJs, drinks hot chocolate, and plays games or watches films. Proper cosy vibes.
2. DIY Snowflakes
You only need paper and scissors. Kids absolutely love seeing their snowflakes taped up around the house like a mini winter wonderland.
3. Kindness Countdown
Instead of chocolates every day, (or as well as) write down kind things to do. Bake for a neighbour, leave a note for someone, help tidy up. It’s such a lovely way to bring a bit more warmth into winter.
Bee's Final Thoughts
Seasonal celebrations don’t need to be expensive or Pinterest-perfect. The best memories come from simple moments. Laughing, trying something new, getting outside, being together.
Whether it’s a messy craft or a muddy walk, what really matters is the love you wrap around it.
So go on, mama. Grab your calendar, pick a couple of ideas, and make each season feel special in your own way.
Please let me know in the comments which one you did. I love hearing from you.
