Family life is all lights, laughter and let’s be honest, a fair bit of chaos. I am writing this in December but you can use these tips all year round.
Well friends, as a mum of two (with one more on the way!), I know how quickly the magic of the season can turn into a whirlwind of stress.
But don’t worry. I’ve got you covered with some easy tips to help your family enjoy the cosy without getting lost in the chaos.
So, grab a cup of tea (or hot chocolate!) and let’s chat about keeping things peaceful and meaningful this holiday season.

1. Start with What Matters Most
It’s easy to feel like we need to do all the things—bake cookies, host parties, buy the perfect gifts, and somehow keep the house spotless (ha!). But here’s the truth: we don’t.
As a family, sit down together and decide what’s really important to you.
Is it watching holiday movies snuggled up on the couch?
Making handmade decorations?
Visiting family?
Focus on those moments, and let the rest go.
Top Tip: I ask my girls what their favourite holiday tradition is, and we make sure to prioritise it. You’d be surprised how simple their answers can be!
2. Schedule Some “Quiet Time”
With all the parties, educational activities, and shopping trips, December can feel non-stop.
For my family, a bit of quiet time is a must.
Whether it’s a lazy morning in PJs or a family film night, these slower moments help us recharge.
If you have little ones who love reading like mine. Try creating a cosy “reading corner” where they can escape with their favourite books.
Even 15 minutes of downtime can work wonders.
Bonus for Us Busy Mums: Use this time to sneak in a moment for yourself. A nap, a bit of journaling, or even just sitting with your feet up. You’ve earned it!
3. Don’t Aim for Perfect—Aim for Fun
Raise your hand if you’ve ever stressed over a picture-perfect holiday. 🙋♀️ (Guilty!)
Here’s the thing: kids don’t remember if the cookies were Instagram-worthy. They remember if they got to help and get to lick the bowl out.
This year, I’m embracing the mess. When my kids help decorate cookies or make handmade ornaments, it’s more about the fun than the outcome.
And you know what? That’s the good stuff.
That’s what they will remember. Think back to your childhood, What were your favourite bits?
4. Create a “Yes Basket”
Something I’ve recently discovered is, what I call the “Yes Basket.”
Fill a basket with activities the kids can do on their own. Think of colouring sheets, legos or a small craft kit.
Whenever they’re bored or you need a moment (hello, dinner prep!), point them to the basket.
It’s a lifesaver. Especially when I need to divide my attention between the girls, chatting with you guys and prepping for baby number three!
5. Set a Budget—and Stick to It
Let’s be real—holiday spending can get out of hand.
But more stuff doesn’t equal more joy. You know me, I am a minimalist and I can’t stand clutter.

As a family, we try to focus on experiences over things.
A movie night with homemade popcorn and blankets. A nature walk to collect pinecones or sticks. Or doing a family activity like baking or board games.
6. Lean Into Gratitude
When the season feels overwhelming, gratitude can help ground us.
Each evening, we go around the dinner table and share one thing we’re grateful for that day. Granted there are days we don’t do this, I’m only human.
It’s such a simple habit, but it’s made a huge difference in how we all feel. Definitely worth giving a go.
Bee's Final Thoughts
At the end of the day, the holidays aren’t about doing it all—they’re about feeling it all.
The giggles, the cuddles, the occasional flour explosion in the kitchen.
So, take a deep breath, mumma. You’ve got this.
From my growing family to yours, I’m wishing you a season full of love, laughter, and plenty of cosy moments.
Let’s make this December one to remember—for all the right reasons.
With love and a (slightly chaotic) hug, Bee.
